MEAT PANIC
There was a time in my country, when people went vegan. Some did it for a week; some for months and others gave up meat completely.
An exposé in our national television sent shivers through the country and no one wanted anything to do with meat including myself. Mama Njeri was the first to confess that she will never have meat again until another exposé came out, this time round it was about maize.
It was at this point that mama Njeri decided she was going to go back to having meat, according to her, we were doomed either way, nothing was safe to consume in this world if the greedy traders had compromised even maize.
She narrated to us stories of how the world used to be in the 80s and 90s, humans were not as greedy as today and everyone sold genuine products and didn’t cut corners for profits. I grew up in the 90s and I agree with her, the liver, kale and spinach we eat nowadays, is not the same as the ones I grew up eating. It may be because of the fertilizers we use these days. I don’t have the facts so don’t quote me on that. Anyway, Mama Njeri went back to eating meat 2 weeks later.
Months after going vegan, I decided to try meat again by making this delicious, tasty, tender, spicy liver. It was TANTALIZING. As I said, the liver we eat nowadays isn’t as soft as the one we used to eat but I still made it work.
