A POOR MAN'S MEAL??
Sukumawiki, a direct translation in English would be (push the week). Sukumawiki is a poor man’s meal here in Kenya, or at least it was based on the name. I know you are wondering why they named it the way they did, well my guess is; it helped them get by the week on those broke days rather than sleep hungry.
Today sukumawiki is one of the most consumed vegetable here in Kenya. An average Kenyan eats sukumawiki (kale) at least twice a week. Apart from the fact that it is packed with nutrients, sukumawiki is cheap and easy to make.
It is mostly served with beef, chicken, fish and ugali. Here is the recipe for this nutrient packed vegetable.
