ICONIC POPULAR KENYAN CHRISTMAS DRINKS ( CHILDHOOD MEMORIES)

Growing up, Christmas used to be a big deal. As a child, there were only two important things to look forward to; the food and the outfit. If your parents got your outfit right, your friends would talk about it for the rest of the year. If you have been following this from my breakfast piece, here is one last thing to tidy up the entire day (Sodas and Juice).

o   SODA

Growing up, we had soda not so often; Christmas was the one time we had as much as we wanted because it was in plenty. A neighbor would volunteer to buy a whole crate of soda for the kids and, we were there for it. Imagine drinking different flavors all in one day! Pure happiness.

Coca-Cola sodas were the drink of choice for most families during Christmas. The togetherness, the happiness on everyone’s face when they opened those sodas was amazing. I still get nostalgia talking about this. Do kids still enjoy Christmas as much as we did? Mmmh.

o   JUICE

QUENCHER that is what everyone would call juice; now say it with a Luo accent. The orange-flavored one was what you would find in almost every Kenyan household. Imagine a glass of juice producing at least ten glasses more! This was the reason, most people bought it. It was economical and lasted longer compared to sodas.

As time went by, new flavors were introduced, and my mum would always buy the pineapple-flavored one. What is/was your best quencher flavor?

JUICY COLA; I believe it was introduced so that the low- income earners would enjoy soda at an affordable price. It was soda, with a juice idea.

1 pack for 10ksh would make a liter of soda, can you imagine that!!Genius. I wonder why they are not in the market.

Have you ever heard of juicy Cola?
