After the December holidays, of eating meat and all the delicious foods, in January Kenyans always go back to their default settings.
This means they are broke and eat foods they would normally, in the middle of the month if that advance does not come through. If you ask me; Every January Kenyans go through a healthy eating journey, which we do not realize. All the foods mentioned are super good for your overall health.
Let us look at this TOP 10 FOODS
GITHERI
Just like cabbage, most Kenyans do not f**ck with githeri. We ate it so much in high school, that whenever we see it on a dinner table we cringe. It is a mixture of maize and beans, boiled together then fried to your preference.
Is it healthy? Yes 100% and packed with proteins and carbohydrates. Here is how you make a simple but delicious githeri.

SUKUMAWIKI (COLLARD GREEN)
This is a go to meal for Kenyans when broke. Add eggs or Avocado if in season and you have a balanced diet. Here is a video of how to make this delicious meal served with ugali.
SPINACH
Just like sukumawiki, you can have spinach with eggs and ugali. They are packed with iron and good for your overall health. Here is a video of how to make them.
CABBAGE
This is a healthy vegetable hated by most Kenyans. Maybe it is because it was served in some Kenyan boarding high schools a lot and most hospitals serve this to their patients.

FRIED EGGS
Eggs mostly cooked with onions and tomatoes are one of the meals you will find in a Kenyan lunch or dinner table. Personally it is one of my favorite meals especially for lunch when served with ugali and vegetables.

KUNDE (COW PEAS LEAVES)

This is one of the nicest and fancy meals Kenyans have when broke. This is considered a high end restaurant meal during those broke days. If you have never tried it, you definitely should.

This one is fancy on a budget, boujee enough for those tough economic times.
