Here are 5 must try Kenyan street foods. We love them, and I think you will too.
MAYAI PASUA/BOILED EGG WITH SALSA
Boiled eggs with kachumbari a.k.a salsa slurps different especially after a night out. It normally goes for 20-30 Ksh depending on where you buy it. The kachumbari is made of tomatoes, onions, salt and pepper.
SMOKIE
Everyone who sells boiled eggs sells smokies just like in the above picture. I do not know why but that is just how it is in Kenya. Just like mayai, smokie is also served with kachumbari and tomato sauce or chili sauce. Next time you come across this greatness, make sure you try it.
SAMOSA
There are 3 types of samosas made in Kenya; beef, potatoes and green grams also known as ndengu. So there are samosas for everyone, both vegans and meat lovers. It is also served with kachumbari.
MUTURA
Our secret lover. Mostly eaten after dark, you will rarely find a mutura joint opened during the day, why? I honestly do not know, maybe they target the guys coming from work, 6pm to late at night.
What is Mutura?
It is African blood sausage, though it has advanced and some people now make it with minced meat.
MAHINDI CHOMA (barbecued maize)
Mahindi choma slurps different during the cold season. Imagine having hot, barbecued maize with pepper during a cold day! Greatness tupu.
